I’ve figured out the perfect ratio for making the tastiest cinnamon sugar to sweeten anything you’re making. Bonus: It’s super easy to make and lasts for ages in your pantry!

a spoon in a bowl of Cinnamon Sugar - 1

While perfecting this cinnamon sugar recipe, I tested a few different ratios and had everyone weigh in. Hands down, this one-part cinnamon to four-parts sugar ratio is the clear favorite. It strikes the perfect balance between warmth and sweetness and has become my go-to for just about everything.

I use it to sprinkle over buttered toast, muffins, or pie crusts, and it’s a must for filling cinnamon rolls. I’ve even been known to stir a little into my morning coffee for an extra hint of spice. It’s simple, versatile, and one of those small things that make everyday treats feel special.

This blend couldn’t be easier—or more economical—to make at home, and it stores beautifully. I also love gifting it in a small jar tied with twine for an easy, thoughtful hostess or holiday gift. All you need is fresh cinnamon and granulated sugar to make this cozy kitchen staple.

The best cinnamon sugar ratio

While there’s no right or wrong way to make cinnamon sugar, I prefer this 1:4 ratio because it delivers a strong cinnamon flavor. If you prefer milder cinnamon sugar, try using two teaspoons of ground cinnamon (in place of two tablespoons).

It’s easy to scale the ratio up or down, too! To make more, use 1 cup of sugar with ¼ cup of cinnamon. To make less, use ¼ cup of sugar with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, or 1 tablespoon of sugar with ¾ teaspoon of cinnamon.

How to use cinnamon sugar

There are a million different ways you can use this sugar. It adds that extra sweetness and spice that everyone loves. Sprinkle it on waffles and pancakes, cookies and muffins, pie crusts, cinnamon sugar toast, or oatmeal. You can roll donuts in it, use it as a filling for cinnamon rolls, or enliven your morning coffee with it. It also works great to rim a glass for a fall-flavored cocktail!
