Call me cheesy (yep, I went there) , but I LOVE a holiday-inspired cheese board . Creating little details that bring the festive vibes is so fun—they work as conversation starters AND taste delicious. For this St. Patrick’s Day cheese board, I’ll show you how to make four easy, homemade elements to bring festive cheer. Plus, I’ll give you seven expert tips for making the best cheese boards!

A cheese board needs to be fun. To add some playful St. Patrick’s Day elements, I chose gold chocolate coins, candy rainbows, shamrock shapes, and everything green I could find.
Living on Canada’s west coast, I’m not exactly a neighbor of Ireland. However, I love St. Patrick’s Day as it brings people together, regardless of where they are from. We don’t celebrate the national day of most other countries, yet many places worldwide celebrate Ireland’s national day! Everyone loves the festive spirit, getting together for laughter, good food, and maybe a bit of luck. For my St. Patrick’s Day cheese board, I wanted to capture that sense of fun and togetherness. So, I’ve made four really simple elements that add festive cheer. And if you want to pair a cocktail with this cheese board, my Irish Mule is right on point. Let’s dig in!
5 elements for a St. Patrick’s Day snack board
When I think generally of St. Patrick’s Day, I think of fun, cheer, rainbows, gold coins, and all things green! My festive St. Patrick’s Day Cheese Board is packed with yummy green things. Four of the elements are homemade – and easy to do. And the rest are additions to fill in the board. Here is what to include:
- Shamrock brie: Brie and jam are always complementary. I used a homemade kiwi pineapple jam (thanks mom), but any green jam will do. If you like a little bit of heat, jalapeño jam works well.
- Green bell pepper dip bowl: Cut and hollow out a green pepper, then fill it up with your favorite dip. I used around ¾ cups of store-bought spinach dip, but the amount will vary depending on the size of your pepper.
- Dill goat cheese: Grab a log of goat cheese and roll it in minced dill for a fresh, herby touch. If dill isn’t you thing, use parsley or basil instead.
- Easy shamrock crackers: Take a shamrock cookie cutter to tortillas to make these cute, festive crackers.
- Everything else: Fill in your board with pops of Irish-inspired color! Think rainbow candy strips, gold chocolate coins, green grapes, green olives, sliced cucumber, sliced pear, wasabi peas, snap peas, sliced green apples, and green tortilla chips. If you want to add some bread, make this easy whole wheat Irish soda bread . Add some shamrock sugar cookies for dessert!

Adding a few homemade elements and filling in the gaps with store-bought is the best way to add fun to your cheese board without feeling overwhelmed.

Tip: Look through the green peppers before choosing one to be your dip bowl. Try to find one with three distinct sections resembling a shamrock.
Tips for St. Patrick’s Day cheese board
- Variety: When I build a snack or cheese board, I aim for contrast—fluffy bread with crunchy crackers, creamy goat cheese with sharp cheddar. Different textures and flavors keep every bite interesting.
- Portions: If the board is the main event, plan on 2–3 ounces of cheese per person. For an appetizer spread, 1–2 ounces each is usually perfect.
- Cutting the brie: Run your knife under hot water, dry it, then slice. It’ll glide through without sticking.
- Crispy crackers: Flip tortillas halfway through baking, and broil for 30 seconds at the end if you want extra crunch.
- Layering: Start with the largest items—brie, peppers, cheeses, meats—then tuck nuts, olives, and small bites into the gaps for that abundant look.
- Room temperature cheese: Let cheese sit out for about 30 minutes before serving. It tastes best when it’s not cold.

My daughter suggested arranging the rainbow candy from the chocolate coins – we all know there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Adding plenty of green to your cheese board is the best way to make it instantly recognizable as a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

- Gold chocolate coins + sour rainbow strips candy
- Freeze-dried okra or snap peas

Instructions
- Shamrock crackers: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a small, shamrock-shaped cookie cutter to cut the tortillas. Lay the cut outs in a single layer on a baking sheet, spray with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt. Bake for 6-8 minutes, until they are crispy. 4 flour tortillas, Spray oil + sea salt
- Shamrock brie cheese cut out: Use a sharp knife to cut the rind off the top of the cheese. Place rind, cut side up, on a cutting board and then use a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter to cut through the center. Place the cut-out rind back on top of the brie cheese, rind side facing up. Fill the cut-out area with green jam. 1 round brie cheese, 3-4 tablespoons green-colored jam
- Dill goat cheese: Place the dill on a small plate and then roll the goat cheese in it until it is completely covered. 4 ounces goat cheese, 4 tablespoons minced dill
- Green pepper bowl: Carefully cut the top off a green pepper and hollow out the inside. If it doesn’t sit flat, you can trim a little from the bottom but make sure not to make a hole. You can also prop it up with a a little charcuterie or something else on your cheese board. Fill the bowl with dip. 1 medium green pepper, ¾ cup dip
- Assemble: I like to arrange the cheeses, green pepper bowl, and pot of gold coins on the platter first. Next, I add the charcuterie, shamrock crackers, and vegetables. Finally, I fill in the gaps with nuts, olives, and any of the green snacks.
