Get your day off to a delicious start with this tropical-tasting spinach smoothie! It’s ripe bananas, pineapple, baby spinach, yogurt, and hemp hearts blended up until smooth. It’s an easy and versatile green smoothie recipe, and it’s ready in minutes!

You’re going to love this spinach smoothie. It’s bright, tropical, and lightly sweet, with ripe bananas and juicy pineapple doing all the heavy lifting on flavor. It comes together in minutes and tastes more like a vacation-in-a-glass than a green smoothie.
I blend in Greek yogurt for a creamy texture that makes this feel satisfying enough for breakfast or a grab-and-go snack. The spinach blends right in and stays completely in the background, letting the fruit shine. It’s one of those easy recipes that just works, whether you’re sipping it at home or pouring it into a travel cup on your way out the door.
For the best texture, I like to use at least one frozen fruit to keep the smoothie cold and thick. If everything is fresh, a small handful of ice does the trick. Simple, flexible, and endlessly drinkable—this is a smoothie I come back to again and again.

How to freeze spinach for smoothies
Freezing spinach for green smoothies couldn’t be easier! Just place fresh spinach leaves in a reusable silicone bag, squeeze out the air, and place the bag in the freezer. You can take it directly from the freezer and place it in your blender.
Just don’t expect to be able to use frozen spinach for salads. Freezing breaks down the cellular walls so it will be wilted and watery when thawed.
Spinach smoothie add-ins
Give this green shake a boost or play around with it to suit your tastes with some of these easy add-ins:
- Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or a tablespoon of chia seeds .
- Add ½ cup of your favorite fresh or frozen berries like strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries.
- Nut butter gives it a creamier texture. Peanut butter, almond butter, and cashew butter are a few options, but any nut butter works!
