Rainbow Pride Cookies on a plate - 1

I’ve long been an LGBTIQ+ ally. Many of my closest friends, my chosen family, are gay. The recipe for these Pride cookies was developed years ago when I was asked to bring a dessert to a Pride brunch party. I love mixing the rainbow flag colors together to make a colorful tie-dyed cookie.

I start by making a basic sugar cookie dough. Then I divide it into six portions and dye them the rainbow colors. I make these pretty rainbow Pride cookies by sticking a little bit of each color together.

Pride month is usually celebrated in June, but you can celebrate love and diversity all year round with these rainbow cookies.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

What do the colors on the Pride flag represent?

The most recognized Pride flag includes six colors that mean:

  1. Red: Life
  2. Orange: Healing
  3. Yellow: Sunshine
  4. Green: Nature
  5. Indigo: Harmony
  6. Violet: Soul

In 2018, artist Daniel Quasar created the Progress Pride flag, which features the well-known six colors and adds black and brown stripes for LGBTIQ+ people of color, as well as blue, pink, and white stripes from the trans flag.

If you’d like these Pride cookies to be all-inclusive, add all 11 colors to the mix!

Tip for making round cookies

I have a tip for making your cookies perfectly round. As soon as they come out of the oven, put a glass that is slightly bigger than a cookie over top of it and give it a little swirl. It will form it into a perfectly round cookie. A martini glass works great for large cookies while a drinking glass works for medium-sized cookies.

What food coloring should I use?

For the most vibrant color, I recommend using a good-quality brand. My top picks are Wilton and Americolor .

How long do these cookies last?

These Pride cookies will keep well for 3-4 days in a sealed container.

Where did you get the idea to make these fun cookies?

The inspiration for these Pride cookies came from Katrina over at In Katrina’s Kitchen .
