This pineapple margarita is what I reach for on hot, sunny days when I want something bright, icy, and wildly refreshing. The tequila has just the right kick, balanced by fresh lime juice and a generous splash of tropical pineapple flavor that instantly puts me in vacation mode.

The extra step of making fresh pineapple purée is absolutely worth it. Blending real pineapple gives the drink a slightly thicker texture and a fresher, fruit-forward taste than juice alone, making the margarita feel vibrant and special without being complicated. Shaken with tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, it comes out cold, smooth, and perfectly balanced.

I like to finish each glass with a sweet-and-spicy salt rim made from sugar, sea salt, and a touch of cayenne—it plays beautifully with the juicy pineapple and adds a little surprise with every sip. Garnished with a pineapple wedge, this easy, crowd-pleasing margarita tastes like summer in a glass.

Put a tasty spin on your pineapple margarita with one of these ideas:

  • Pineapple jalapeño margarita – for a spicy pineapple margarita, add a few slices of fresh jalapeño to the shaker.
  • Frozen pineapple margarita – if you love a slushy margarita, add all the ingredients to your high-speed blender with a handful of ice, and blend until smooth.
  • Grilled pineapple margarita – you’re hanging out on the patio, why not throw some pineapple on the barbecue? Grilling pineapple gives it a smoky flavor and brings out its natural sweetness. Grill the cored pineapple until lightly charred before adding it to your blender to make purée.

Garnish ideas

When it comes to summery drinks, part of the fun is making it look pretty! The prettier the drink, the better it tastes – I don’t make the rules… There are two ways I like to garnish my pineapple margarita:

  • Pineapple wedge: The classic choice! Cut a small wedge of fresh pineapple, make a slice at the bottom, and perch it on the rim of your glass – or just pop it straight in the glass. See if you finish your drink or eat your wedge first!
  • Pineapple leaf: Did you know this part of the pineapple is called the ‘frond’ – fun, right?! Dunk a frond in your glass to add some color and tropical flair.

Pineapple Margaritas Recipe

Pineapple Tequila Cocktail - 5

Ingredients

  • ▢ 2 ounces pineapple puree (see notes)
  • ▢ 2 ounces white tequila
  • ▢ 1 ounce Triple Sec
  • ▢ 1 ounce fresh lime juice

Sweet and Spicy Salt

  • ▢ 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ▢ 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ▢ ½ teaspoon cayenne

Instructions

  • Make pineapple puree: Cut off the top and bottom of a pineapple and then cut it into 4 equal pieces. Use one piece (¼ of a pineapple), and then save the rest for another use. Slice off the peel and the hard inner core, chop the pineapple, and then put it into your blender. Blend on high until smooth. (Note: if you don’t have a high-powered blender, you may want to strain the puree so there are no hard bits in it.)
  • Make rim salt: Mix the sweet and spicy salt ingredients together in a small dish. Run a cut lime around the rim of a glass, then dip the rim into the salt. Fill the glass with ice. 1 teaspoon sea salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, ½ teaspoon cayenne
  • Add ingredients to shaker: Put a handful of ice into a cocktail mixer or glass jar, add 2 ounces of the pineapple puree, the tequila, triple sec, and lime juice and stir until cold. 2 ounces pineapple puree, 2 ounces white tequila, 1 ounce fresh lime juice, 1 ounce Triple Sec
  • Serve: Strain the pineapple margarita into the glass and garnish with a slice of pineapple.
