This orange creamsicle smoothie is similar to an Orange Julius. It’s a delicious breakfast drink made with a whole orange, orange juice, yogurt, and a banana.

This orange creamsicle smoothie is light and fresh, creamy and tangy, sweet and refreshing. It’s a delicious blend of orange juice and yogurt with something that makes it extra special. Want to know what it is?
To make this smoothie truly the best, we add a whole peeled orange to the blender. It adds body to the smoothie and so much flavor. If you love oranges, you will love this smoothie recipe!
What does an orange creamsicle smoothie taste like?
You might remember those popsicles from when you were a kid – they were bright orange on the outside, had ice cream on the inside, and affectionately went by the name orange creamsicles. This orange creamsicle smoothie recipe takes the heart of those flavors and gives it a real food spin. You’ll still taste the tang from the orange, but not as intensely as if you ate it on its own. The yogurt and frozen banana mellow the citrus and provide the creaminess that comes with the orange creamsicles. It’s downright delightful!
Ingredients needed
4 ingredients are all you’ll need for this orange creamsicle smoothie recipe:
- Large navel orange : there are lots of orange varieties available out there, however, the navel orange is a good size to incorporate a whole one into the recipe, and they’re also very juicy.
- Banana : use a whole frozen banana for this smoothie. It doesn’t matter if you put it in whole or chopped up.
- Plain yogurt : It’s best to use thick, Greek-style yogurt for this smoothie. It will give the best texture. If you have regular plain yogurt in your fridge, that will work too, however, your smoothie will be a little thinner. You can also use vanilla yogurt in a pinch.
- Orange juice : This really boosts the orange flavor, but you can substitute water if you want to cut down on the sugar and sweetness. If you don’t have orange juice you can also use some honey or maple syrup.

Variations to try
The orange creamsicle smoothie is incredible on its own. That said, if you want to mix it up a little or have other ingredients you want to include here are some options that will taste great too:
- Fruit : You can add other fruit to this smoothie, like pineapple, lime, grapefruit, or coconut. Citrus or tropical fruits will incorporate nicely into the orange base. If you want to add berries or other fruit, you will start to play with taste and color.
- Veggies : It’s hard to incorporate vegetables into this smoothie without altering the color. Just know that if you’re going to add spinach or other green vegetables you will no longer have that sunny, bright yellowish-orange smoothie you started with. Green veggies will also give a more earthy taste.
- Milk : You can add milk for an even creamier taste. Dairy milk, coconut milk, or almond milk would be great additions! You can omit the orange juice and sub milk if you want your orange creamsicle smoothie to taste more on the creamsicle side than the orange side.
- Popsicles : Taking it back to its roots! If you have a popsicle mold at home, you can easily pour the orange creamsicle smoothie into the mold and freeze them. Orange creamsicle popsicles will feel like a real childhood treat!
