Peach Compote in a bowl with a spoon - 1

This easy peach compote is all about pure, concentrated peach flavor. Made with ripe fresh peaches, a touch of maple syrup, and a little lemon juice, it’s naturally sweet with just enough brightness to keep the fruit tasting fresh and vibrant.

As the peaches gently cook down, they release their juices and soften, creating a glossy, jammy sauce that tastes like summer in a spoon. The maple syrup adds a subtle caramel-like sweetness, while the lemon juice sharpens everything just enough to let the peach flavor really shine.

How to peel peaches?

I prefer not to peel the peaches, which makes a wonderfully rustic compote. However, if you plan to can this compote, peel them, as the skin will turn an unpleasant dark color over time.

To peel peaches, cut a shallow X at the bottom of each peach, then place them in a pot of boiling water for 1 minute. After a minute, scoop them out and put them in a bowl of cold water. Once they’re cool, the skin will peel off easily.

Can I use frozen peaches? Yes, frozen peaches will work in a pinch, or when they’re out of season.

Can I make it in advance? Definitely, it will keep beautifully in the fridge in a sealed container or mason jar for up to 5 days.

Can I freeze peach compote? Yes! Peach compote freezes very well. If you’ve made more than you can eat, freeze some in a freezer-proof container. I like to use these reusable Stasher freezer bags . Keep in mind that if you leave the compote slightly chunky, as shown in the pictures, the peach chunks will be softer after freezing.
