I drink a lot of smoothies, so I’m always looking for ways to keep them interesting, and this kiwi smoothie is one of my favorite ways to shake things up. Kiwi brings a bright, tangy punch, but it’s nicely balanced by sweet banana and pineapple, so the flavor stays fresh and approachable. If the kiwis are extra tart, a small drizzle of honey smooths everything out beautifully.

This is an easy, flexible smoothie I’ll blend up for a quick breakfast or pour into a travel cup when I’m heading out the door. Using a mix of fresh and frozen fruit keeps it thick and cold, while yogurt adds a creamy texture that makes it feel satisfying without being heavy. Spinach blends right in, adding color without overpowering the flavor, and hemp hearts lend a subtle nuttiness that rounds everything out.

It’s bright, fruity, and refreshing, with just enough sweetness to keep me coming back for another sip. Simple ingredients, great flavor, and a little variety—exactly what I want in a smoothie.

Here are some easy adds-ins for this kiwi smoothie:

  • Avocado: Add ½ a ripe avocado for extra creaminess.
  • Nut butter: Add a tablespoon or two of nut butter like almond butter, cashew butter, or even peanut butter to make it more filling.
  • Protein powder: Give your smoothie a boost with a scoop of your favorite powder. My go-to is usually vanilla, but unflavored works, too.

Can I make this smoothie ahead of time?

Like all smoothies, they’re best enjoyed right away. You can easily make this one in the morning and take it as a go-to. It’ll keep at room temperature for up to 2 hours.

Can you freeze kiwis for smoothies?

Yes, you can. To freeze kiwis, peel them, then slice or chop them. Lay them on a parchment-lined cookie sheet in a single layer and pop them into your freezer. Once they’re frozen, transfer them to an airtight container, and they’ll keep for up to 3 months!

Ingredients

  • ▢ 3 kiwi fruits (peeled)
  • ▢ 1 medium banana
  • ▢ 1 cup pineapple
  • ▢ 1 cup spinach
  • ▢ ½ cup plain yogurt
  • ▢ ½ cup water
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon hemp hearts (optional)
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Instructions

  • Add the kiwi, banana pineapple, spinach, yogurt, hemp hearts, and water to your blender. 3 kiwi fruits, 1 medium banana, 1 cup pineapple, 1 cup spinach, ½ cup plain yogurt, ½ cup water, 1 tablespoon hemp hearts
  • Blend on high speed until smooth. Taste the smoothie and if you’d like it sweeter, add the honey. 1 tablespoon honey
  • Pour your kiwi smoothie into glasses and garnish with a kiwi slice.
