Get ready to get messy because this sweet-and-sour honey sriracha chicken is sticky and finger-licking good! It’s tender, juicy chicken glazed in a sweet and spicy sauce that’s simple to make and better than take-out. Serve it with steamed rice and your favorite vegetable side for an easy weeknight meal that everyone will love!

This easy homemade Asian-inspired chicken recipe features tender chicken drumsticks coated in a spicy, sweet, and sour sauce that tastes just like takeout—only better because it’s made at home. It’s ready in about 45 minutes, most of which is hands-off, so I can get on with the rest of dinner (or relax) while it cooks. I always make extra sauce to serve on the side, and a double batch is perfect for quick lunches over rice, noodles, or even piled onto a salad.
The sauce is meant to have a little kick. Sriracha balances the sweetness of the honey, creating a bold, savory-sweet heat that really brings the chicken to life. You can easily adjust the spice level to suit your taste—if you’re unsure, start with one tablespoon of sriracha instead of two, then dial it up from there once you know how spicy you like it.

Using other cuts of chicken
In this recipe, I recommend using bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks for their tender and flavorful dark meat. Chicken thighs or breasts would work equally well but I recommend using bone-in, skin-on cuts because it results in supremely juicy chicken. The bone helps the chicken cook evenly and the skin acts as a barrier to lock in moisture.
Make it a meal
This is the perfect savory-sweet chicken dish to serve alongside any Asian rice or noodle dish. For a complete meal, it pairs well with our favorite coconut rice or garlic butter rice with crispy garlic . A simple side such sautéed bok choy with ginger and garlic or garlic snap peas rounds out the meal. My creamy cucumber salad recipe is another easy side that goes well with this recipe.
