Key ingredients in ground turkey stir fry
Hoisin sauce: This sweet sauce can be found in the Asian section of your grocery store. It lasts for ages in your fridge so you can use the rest the next time you make astir fry.
Ground turkey: This is available in most grocery stores. If you can’t find any, you can use ground chicken instead.
High-heat oil: Because stir-fries are cooked at a high temperature, make sure to choose an oil that stands up to heat. Avocado oil and grape seed oil are two good options.

What is the key to pan-frying ground turkey? The key to browning turkey in a skillet is to prevent it from releasing too much moisture as it cooks. One way to ensure it browns nicely is to choose a large skillet or wok. When a pan is too full, the temperature drops, causing the turkey to release excess liquid that prevents it from browning. You can also check that your skillet is preheated well. And lastly, do not stir it too much at first. Once you add it to the skillet, let it brown on the bottom for a minute or two before you start crumbling it.
Ground turkey stir fry variations to try
- If you do not like bell peppers, try diced zucchini, mushrooms, or broccoli.
- This recipe also works with ground chicken, beef, or pork. If your pork is fatty, drain off the meat before adding in the sauce and peppers.
- You can substitute a store-bought stir-fry sauce instead of the hoisin mixture. Teriyaki is yummy!
