If you want summertime in a glass, this frozen strawberry margarita is the recipe you should make. Made with frozen strawberries and the usual margarita suspects, this slushy drink is the ideal balance of sweet and tart and will keep you coming back for more.

This is one of my favorite summer cocktails, especially when serving guests. The vibrant color and the sweet-tart flavor are always a hit. 🍓
Is it even summer if you don’t have a slushy drink in hand? I love making frozen versions of my favorite cocktails to cool down with when the sun is high in the sky. Last year, I made a frozen Aperol spritz with orange juice and prosecco . The year before was the summer of frozen negroni slushies made with orange juice ice cubes .
But this year, I’m all over this frozen strawberry margarita. I’ve taken my go-to margarita recipe and blended it with a whole bunch of frozen strawberries. The result is a cool, strawberry-forward drink you’ll want to sip on all summer long.
PS. I’ve made this minus the tequila a few times, and it tastes great!
Ingredient notes
I make these with usual margarita ingredients like tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.
Tequila: I like using white (also known as blanco or silver) tequila as the flavor is mild and lets the strawberries shine.
Agave syrup: As I mention in the notes section in the recipe card, I use this as it blends well into cold drinks.
Strawberries: Frozen strawberries are key here. While you could make a version with fresh strawberries + a lot of ice, using frozen strawberries ensures that the flavor isn’t watered down with ice.

While a high-powered blender is ideal for making frozen drinks, a regular blender will also do the trick. Just know that you will likely get a few larger icy chunks, but it will taste just as delicious.

I love using these traditional margarita glasses, but have also served them many times in a rocks glass, and they look just as pretty.
A few variations you can try
The easiest way to switch up this drink is to use different fruit. Any kind of frozen berries or fruit will work so use what is in your freezer or what you are craving. Just be careful when mixing lots of fruit as the color can sometimes turn brownish.
I also love adding a jalapeño to the blender to make it spicy!
Make-ahead tips
While you can’t exactly make these ahead of time as they will melt, you can get everything organized. You could even pour the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and agave into your blender. When your friends arrive, add the strawberries and ice, blend, and then pour the slushy strawberry margaritas into cups to serve. Cheers!
- Rim the glasses with sugar or salt.
- Squeeze the lime juice.
- Slice limes and strawberries for garnish.
- Have your blender, measuring cups, alcohol, and agave on your counter and ready to go.

I’ve been making these frozen strawberry margaritas as ‘welcome drinks’ when my friends visit. They add a little extra fun to every party!

Tip: I sometimes make two batches—a regular batch and a non-alcoholic batch. So they don’t get mixed up, I’ll add a handful of blueberries or blackberries to that one so the color is a little different.
