This grapefruit margarita is a light, summery, refreshing take on the classic margarita. The tartness of grapefruit and lime is balanced with an easy, homemade agave or honey simple syrup. It’s perfect for patio season, and it’s ready in just 10 minutes!

Alright, it’s margarita time again—and this grapefruit margarita is one I make on repeat. It combines two of my favorite things: juicy grapefruits and a classic margarita, for a drink that’s bright, balanced, and incredibly refreshing. Think sweet, sour, and salty flavors all coming together with a clean splash of white tequila.
This one’s similar to a paloma, but without the soda water, so the citrus flavor stays front and center. I sweeten it with either honey or agave simple syrup instead of traditional simple syrup, which keeps the drink tasting fresh and lets the grapefruit really shine. During testing, I found that adding a bit of lime juice alongside the grapefruit made everything taste more balanced, so that’s the version I keep coming back to.
Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice takes this margarita to the next level, but store-bought works when that’s what you have. The grapefruit softens the tequila just enough, making this a great option even for those who are still warming up to it. With a salty rim and that perfect sweet-tart sip, this grapefruit margarita feels like an instant celebration in a glass.
