This blackberry smoothie is creamy, refreshing, and bursting with bright berry flavor. It’s frozen blackberries, banana, and Greek yogurt blended up until smooth. It makes a great breakfast for busy mornings, and it’s ready in just 5 minutes!

If you’ve ever wondered whether blackberries work in smoothies, I can confidently say yes. This blackberry smoothie is as beautiful as it is delicious, with a deep berry flavor that feels both fresh and satisfying.
I love smoothies because they come together in minutes and keep my family feeling full without making us feel heavy. This one is especially flexible: I use Greek yogurt for a thick, creamy texture, but dairy-free yogurt works just as well. If you like a sweeter smoothie, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup does the trick. You can sip it straight from a glass or turn it into a smoothie bowl topped with granola, shredded coconut, and fresh fruit for an easy breakfast or snack.
Frozen blackberries give this smoothie its thick, rich texture, while a ripe banana adds natural sweetness and creaminess. The yogurt ties everything together, and coconut yogurt is a favorite swap here—it pairs beautifully with the blackberry flavor and makes the whole smoothie taste a little extra special.

Blackberry smoothie add-ins
I kept it simple with this berry smoothie, but you can easily add your favorite ingredients to suit your taste. Here are a few of our favorite add-ins:
- A scoop of your favorite protein powder , some ground flaxseeds, or hemp hearts to make it more filling.
- Any nut butter will add creaminess and will help you feel fuller longer. You can use almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, or even pumpkin seed butter.
- A handful of spinach or kale (or other leafy greens) will help you get your daily dose of greens. It will alter the bright purple color, but you won’t taste it!
How to get rid of blackberry seeds in smoothies
I love blackberry smoothies, but blackberry seeds are small and hard which can make them unpleasant to eat. The simplest way to deal with blackberry seeds in smoothies is to use a high-speed blender. Blend it on high for a little bit longer than you normally would, and this will pulverize the seeds.
The other way to get rid of them is to use a cheesecloth or strainer, but this can get messy. Place the cheesecloth or strainer over a wide-mouth jar or a small bowl, then carefully pour the blended smoothie over it to remove the seeds. If your smoothie is thick, try pressing it with the back of a spoon to help it pass.
