This apple crisp with maple syrup is the perfect fall dessert. It’s filled with good-for-you ingredients like fresh apples, oats, and pecans, and it’s naturally sweetened with maple syrup. It’s easy to make, everyone loves it, and it’s ready in just over an hour!

When apple season rolls around, this apple crisp is the dessert I make on repeat. It’s cozy and comforting, with soft, gooey apples beneath a crunchy oat topping, and it fills the whole house with the scent of fall as it bakes.

The recipe is wonderfully straightforward and uses simple ingredients I usually already have on hand. I toss sliced apples—skins on for a rustic feel—with maple syrup and a little cornstarch or tapioca starch to thicken the juices, then top everything with a buttery crumble. Most of the baking time is hands-off, so I like to slide it into the oven while we’re eating dinner and pull it out warm and bubbling for dessert.

The spiced apples are reminiscent of apple pie , but without the extra work, which is why I love this recipe so much. It’s easy to make, tastes just as good the next day, and works beautifully with whatever apple variety I have on hand, from Honeycrisp and Pink Lady to Granny Smith or Gala.

Make ahead and store

Can I prepare apple crisp ahead of time? Definitely! Make it 2-3 days in advance and store it in your fridge. When you’re ready to serve, warm it in a 350-degree Fahrenheit oven for 10-15 minutes (or until heated through).

How long do leftovers keep in the fridge? Store any leftover apple crisp in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
